small-enamelled-box-libra660
Libra Zodiac Keepsake Box, Enamelled Wood, 10 x 10 x 6cm

Product Overview

Libra, the only sign symbolised by an object, gives this small wooden keepsake box its enamelled theme. At 10 x 10 x 6cm it holds rings, earrings, a few tumbled stones or the odd ticket stub, and it takes up little more room on a dressing table than a coaster. Each box is handmade in India, so the enamel work varies slightly from piece to piece.

The lid shows the scales in gold line on an ivory enamel disc, ringed by small constellation drawings and set into a navy enamel ground flecked with gold. The lid is hinged and closes with a small metal clasp at the front.

The Story Behind the Design

Libra is the only sign drawn as an object rather than a living figure. Its stars were once counted as the claws of the neighbouring Scorpion before the Romans gave them a constellation of their own. Libra runs from roughly 23 September to 22 October (the exact changeover shifts by a day in some years). It is a cardinal air sign, symbolised by the Scales and traditionally ruled by Venus.

Why You'll Love It

The scales in gold line on ivory and navy enamel

Hinged lid with a metal front clasp

Compact 10 x 10 x 6cm footprint for a dressing table or desk

Handmade in India, so no two are exactly alike

A personal birthday present for anyone born 23 September to 22 October

Matches our other zodiac pieces if you are building a gift around one sign

Materials & Specifications

Product type

Decorative keepsake box

Design

Libra: the scales in gold on ivory enamel, navy surround with constellations

Closure

Hinged lid, metal front clasp

Material

Wood with enamelled decoration

Dimensions

10 x 10 x 6cm

Country of origin

India

Made

Handmade

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth.
