The whole outline of this wall unit is a Hamsa hand in mango wood, left in a warm natural finish, with three display shelves set across the palm. The wood is engraved with an eye at the centre, crescent moons and a lotus at the base. At 48 x 10 x 60cm and 2.4kg it is the larger of our Hamsa pieces, a wall feature that also holds small objects.

The Story Behind the Design

Hamsa comes from the Arabic word for five, after the five fingers of the open palm. Known as the Hand of Fatima in Muslim tradition and the Hand of Miriam in Jewish tradition, it is often drawn with an eye at its centre, as on this shelf, and hung near doorways as a traditional sign of protection against the evil eye.
