Product Overview
A fine brass hanging censer topped with a cross finial, with engraved detailing around the body and a hinged lid for refilling. It hangs on a threaded chain, which lets it sway gently or rest still on a hook. At 16.5 x 8cm and 165g it is the larger of our two classic hanging burners, sized for resin on charcoal, cones or loose incense.
The Story Behind It
The thurible, a lidded censer hung from chains, is one of the oldest objects in Christian worship. It is swung during Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox services so that the smoke of frankincense rises over the altar and congregation. The cross at the top of this burner follows that church tradition.

- Engraved detailing across the brass body

Perfect For
Burning frankincense and myrrh · Church and chapel style interiors · Christmas gifting · Gothic and antique decor · Collectors of traditional censers
An Auro & Co Moment
On Christmas Eve, with the tree lights the only lamps on, you light a charcoal disc, add a pinch of frankincense and close the hinged lid. Hung from its chain by the fireplace, the censer sends up the same scent that fills a cathedral at midnight mass, and the cross catches the glow from the hearth.

FAQ
What should I burn in it?
Resin such as frankincense or myrrh on a charcoal disc works best. Incense cones and loose blends also fit.
How do I use it safely?
Burn charcoal or cones on a heat-resistant surface or hang it well clear of curtains, shelves and anything flammable. The brass gets hot, so let it cool before touching the body or lid, and never leave it burning unattended.
Can I swing it like a church thurible?
The threaded chain allows a gentle swing, but keep movements small and well away from people and fabrics while the charcoal is lit.
Will the brass tarnish?
Brass darkens slowly with use and heat. A soft cloth keeps it bright, or you can leave it to develop an aged tone.
